We were educated and entertained at today’s club meeting by the Road Safety Officer from Mosman Council who gave a talk titled “Stay Safe – Walk Smart as a Pedestrian”.

We learned that 40% of people killed on the roads were over 60 years old and many were surprised to discover that Mosman has a higher rate of pedestrian accidents than NSW generally.
Many factors contribute to the accident rate for the elderly including medication, loss of hearing and sight, changes to health such as flexibility and strength.
Safety tips mentioned include having enough time to cross the road and never assuming that the driver can see you.
The message to take away is Stop. Look. Listen. Think.
If you see any road hazards, contact the Council together with a picture of the hazard.
