MOSMAN MARKET DAY - 5TH AUGUST

The regular market has been in abeyance for a few months to enable the Mosman Square area to be refurbished. The updated area was officially opened by Stephen Ball MP and Mayor Carolyn Corrigan with Federal MP Zali Steggall and State MP Felicity Wilson.

A good opportunity for Ross and Therese supported by Di and Dom to sell a few more Jigsaws. We also welcomed John Cheeseman from the Mosman Historical Society who sold copies of their latest book.

Ross provided a brief report on the day:
  1. The new stand is fabulous. Distinctive , colourful . Easy to put up and pull down. Thanks Dave.
  2. I mentioned that with this new market , there could be some chaos. There was and unfortunately because of double booking by the Council , we and a number of other stands ended up in a less than ideal position. Will be taking this up with the Council.
  3. We sold 5 jigsaw puzzles .
  4. It was good sharing our stand with the Historical Society . Brought in extra traffic for both parties. They sold 7 of their books .
  5. It was good promotion for Rotary - Mayor ,Councillors , Members of parliament , all there . We distributed brochures on Rotary , Soiree etc

MONDAY’S SPEAKER - Sue Dutton – Dance Therapy for Parkinson’s Disease

Dance for Parkinson’s Australia (DPA) provides high quality services to people living with Parkinson’s Disease (PD), partners, carers, friends, and the broader community of seniors. Established in Australia in 2013, our goal is to provide opportunities to improve quality of life and encourage arts, health and well-being in creative ageing. Our primary activities focus on providing accessible dance classes for the Parkinson’s community and broader communities of seniors. We also provide training and professional development and are leaders in creative ageing best practice. 2023 celebrates ten years of delivering the program, classes and workshops in Australia.

For people living with Parkinson’s disease, rigorous dance classes led by trained professional teaching artists are becoming internationally acknowledged as an important, beneficial, movement-based therapeutic intervention that is supported by published research. DPA is an affiliate of the internationally recognised Dance for PD program, which originated in New York at the Mark Morris Dance Centre in 2001.

Partnerships and connections have been developed across the arts and health sectors and include the Opera Australia, Queensland Ballet, DanceNorth, the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Dance Company, Belconnen Arts Centre, Arts Health Network Queensland, Arts Health Network NSW/ACT, Ausdance, MADE Tasmania, the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, state Parkinson’s organisations, and leading neurologists and researchers.

Dance for Parkinson’s Australia (DPA) is a public benevolent institution and charity with DGR status.

Birthday Dinner for Marco - 7th September

Our Brazilian Exchange Student, Marco turns 17 on September 5th. It is also over 6 months since he arrived to spend a year with us but at the same time away from his family. In order to celebrate his birthday PP Barry is organizing a dinner on 7th September at
BahBQ Brazilian Grill, 35 Albany St, Crows Nest 2065

BAHBQ is an authentic local Brazilian steakhouse in Crows Nest on Sydney’s Lower North Shore. Inspired by a passion for authentic Brazilian food, crafted from our homeland in southern Brazil, BAHBQ is dedicated to bringing the authentic flavours of Brazil to your plate.

1. Enjoy unlimited service of traditional Brazilian cuts: a variety of fire-roasted meats, poultry, sausages, seafood, grilled halloumi cheese and spiced pineapple served from our specially designed barbecue.

2. Our churrasco items are spit roasted over natural charcoal and iron bark wood to create an intense heat of aroma and fragrance. We add dry rub seasonings, fine herbs, brines, marinades and glazes to enhance flavour and tenderness.

3. Our waiters move around the restaurant with skewers, slicing meat onto your plate. All skewers will come in no particular order, remember you can always ask for your favourites again, take your time because all of them are worth savouring.

4. We will serve a selection of traditional Brazilian side dishes and condiments that will perfectly complement your experience. They are all delicious, and you can always ask for more.

It sounds like it’s going to be a great night of fellowship. Barry is organizing details and will be taking bookings later this month. In the meantime please let Barry know if you can attend and mark your diary to save the date.
