Our club regularly commits to a contribution to the Rotary Foundation and over the years has derived significant benefits in the form of District and International matching grants.
One way of helping is through the Centurion Program. This was initiated many years ago by the districts in Australia and New Zealand. It’s an easy way for all Rotarians to support their charity: The Rotary Foundation. The program asks members to make a yearly contribution of A$100 or more to the Foundation’s Annual Fund.
And any contribution is tax deductible!
For every $100 contributed in Australia and New Zealand, A/NZ Rotarians have received grants of $183 to support their projects! Think of the Foundation as your Impact Multiplier.
It’s pretty easy to add your $100 when checking into Monday’s lunch. Alternatively you can send $100 to our clubs Project Account with Bendigo Bank and let PP Richard and Treasurer Dave know by email.

Living kidney donor, Anil Srivatsa from India is on the road to Perth unlike any other. His road will take him 57,000km through 17 countries as he drives to Perth, sharing the message of organ donation along the way.
Anil has been a campaigner for organ donation since 2014 when he donated one of his kidneys to his elder brother Dr. Arjun Srivatsa.

Dear members, I’m really excited to inform you that Ruth in her inevitable style has secured Mr Mike Munro (T.V presenter, author & speaker) to be a guest speaker to Mosman Rotary on Monday 19th June, this year. Mike’s topic will be “the last bushrangers”. Mike has been a long time resident in our part of the world & I for one can’t wait to hear his talk.
Based on the calibre of the man, it is essential we get a terrific turnout to listen to Mike’s presentation so we are asking all members to make a special effort to be present for this meeting. We encourage you to invite your families & friends so let’s see why we can’t get at least 50 attendees for this special event as we did for Justice Kirby.
I have spoken to the Hotel Mosman management & they will prepare a different style of meal so Mike can talk uninterrupted. Like Justice Kirby’s presentation, Mike has asked for one hour so we are advising that this meeting will end at 2.30pm not the usual 2.00pm. We ask that you arrive promptly on the day by say 12.45pm so we can get started on time to ensure a smooth running of the meeting.
Please make a special effort to attend & encourage others to do so also. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact myself or Ruth.

Mike Munro grew up in the then Marist Brothers’ Sacred Heart monastery in Mosman. His tragic alcoholic mother was the housekeeper for the 12 brothers.
After a difficult childhood and matriculating, he followed his dream of becoming a newspaper journalist and started as a copy boy at 17. After 10 years in newspapers, two of them in New York, he started with Mike Willesee at the Nine Network before becoming one of the early 60 Minutes reporters. He later hosted programs like A Current Affair, This Is Your Life and Sunday Night on the Seven Network.
In recent years he’s made several documentaries for the History Channel and written a second book, The Last Bushrangers. It wasn’t until MM was in his 30s that he discovered the last Bushrangers in Australian colonial history were in fact his great uncles, one of whom was hanged in Boggo Road jail in 1903 for murdering a policeman and a station manager. It was at the same time he learned his real name wasn’t Munro!
In 2014 he was made a member of the Order of Australia for his services to charity and journalism

Lilian and Derek met Charlie and Rae at the Railway Hotel for lunch and a long catch up.
They are both attending the Rotary International Conference and will be hosting one of our past exchanges students from Holland, Annika Ansen and her husband Harry. Barry and Marco will also be there so it should be a good opportunity to catch up.

We have received the below notice:
As you may be aware, May is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the theme for this year is ‘It’s in our control, to end coercive control’.
This year’s theme really drives home the message that to achieve real and lasting positive cultural change, all levels of society need to be involved and take action against domestic and family violence.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a time for all of us to speak up about domestic abuse including coercive control, raise awareness, and support victims of this devastating but common issue to take their ‘first step to freedom’.
With that said, we would like to offer you and your team the opportunity to support Escabags by ‘Sponsoring an Escape Bag’ for a family or individual escaping domestic abuse in Australia.
Your board has decided to contribute $300 which will cover the cost of complete boxes of Escape Bags to a new Escabags Stockist in or around our community. This is an indirect method of supporting our next DG’s wish to do everything possible to support action against domestic violence during the next Rotary Year.

Dear Club Presidents and Secretaries,
As a club president or secretary, you will receive monthly emails along with the members of the Pilot Reference Group who have opted in to receive updates and information. You will have opportunities to provide feedback on behalf of your members as we establish and test new processes throughout the pilot. You can therefore share information you receive through these emails with your members.
What are we trying to achieve through the Regionalisation Pilot?
The aim of the Regionalisation Pilot is to develop a new regional governance structure to transform Rotary and Rotaract in Zone 8, helping clubs strengthen and grow with more intensive and specialised support that addresses their unique needs. We anticipate the direct benefits to clubs will include:
- A stronger, unified Rotary image and brand
- Greater opportunities for collaboration and partnerships
- Greater efficiency, reduced duplication and reduced costs
- Greater capacity for clubs to adapt to meet the specific needs, circumstances and cultural aspects of their geographic area
- More direct access to the best resources from across Zone 8 to support clubs to achieve their goals
Over 100 Rotarians and Rotaractors from across Zone 8 are currently working in Pilot Establishment Teams (PETs) focused on the following areas:
- Service and Strategy: strategic growth, reach and impact, strategic programs, and the transfer of functions from Districts to the Regional Council
- Corporate and Administration: Regional Council elections, Rotary Specialist Networks, community groups, legal entities, and structures and financials
- Public Image and Partnerships
- Membership
- Communications and IT
- The Rotary Foundation
- Learning and Development and Events
- Pilot Communications
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Where are we currently at?
It is now time to start sharing and testing our work with clubs and members.
As we trial, test and evaluate models and processes throughout the pilot, we anticipate tweaks will be needed to better support clubs. For this reason, we have set up an independent Monitoring and Evaluation Team to work in conjunction with PETs.
The working model currently has three main pillars:
- A central Regional Council that will have functions progressively transferred to it that will look after Zone governance. This will be a group of Rotarians and Rotaractors elected to two year roles by their fellow members.
- Community Leaders, elected Rotarians or Rotaractors, who will work with a group of clubs. This role will encourage collaboration between clubs and beyond, and support clubs to strengthen and grow.
- Specialist Networks focused directly on supporting clubs and their initiatives. This includes our valuable Rotary International staff and coordinator group.
Look out for more information coming on these roles, and how you can get involved. Consultation is integral to the pilot process. There will be ongoing opportunities for clubs and members to give input, in addition to Governor engagement, which has been intensive over the last 6 months.
