Summary of the Rotary Club of Mosman Forum 18 October 2022

Summary of Forum 18 October 2022

Recent Events

Musical Soiree –  a great success and thanks were issued to all involved with organisation and volunteers for the evening.  Funds raised approx. $3,000.

Balmoral Uncorked – another excellent PR event for the Club and again thanks to all those who manned the stall on the day.

Meeting venue.

Members had expressed concern about the conditions for meeting currently available at the Hotel Mosman.

Other venues had been assessed with no real alternative available in the area. Hotel Mosman had indicated that conditions for Lunch on a Monday would be better because we could have the whole of the Upper Duck Room for the meeting.

After discussion it was agreed that the Upper Duck was a good venue and the management was very generous with service etc, and it would be appropriate for the meeting date to be moved to Mondays, for a trial period commencing 7th November.

Projects and RAWCS accounts

The activities of the Club had been restricted over the Covid period in the last 2 years.  It was agreed that members needed to be encouraged to assist to regenerate the Club’s involvement in Service Projects.

Blair Leslie gave a short summary of the RAWCS accounts that the Club had generated and which were still open:
  • Vietnam hand surgery – Dr Scougall – longterm project Balance $11,355
  • Bushfire Project – Garden renovations in Kempsie area – Balance $20,000
This project has been delayed by the Covid but will be finalised in the next few months with assistance from Kempsie area Rotary Clubs
  • Timor Leste – School Building is a planned project that is in the process of being reinstated by Richard Vahtrick
It was agreed that an update of projects, active and proposed, needed to be given regularly at a Club Forum meeting.

Christmas Raffle

BBO reported that recipient would be Bear Cottage and prizes had been finalised:
  • Picture from Ken Done; Voucher from Pasture Restaurant; Voucher from Mosman Newsagency; Hamper from 4th Village; gift from Bear cottage; Jigsaw
  • Selling sites in first 2 weeks in December being finalised
Further update will be provided in the near future.

Next week speaker – Kelly McDonald – A day in the life of a Gallery Director

Marys House Walk 2022

Mary’s House Services is driven and funded by the community to provide best-practice services to keep women and children safe from domestic violence and to provide the tools of empowerment to enable victim-survivors to rebuild their lives; and further, to advocate that we don’t accept domestic abuse

Last year our club donated 10 renewed laptops for the use of Mary’s House clients.

On 30th October Derek Andrew and many others will be pounding the pavement around the North Shore to raise funds for the ongoing provision of services to survivors of domestic abuse/violence. The walk involves 5km from Kirribilli to Cremorne point followed by another 5km back to Kirribilli.

A small donation goes a long way to helping a very worthy cause. And of course any donation over $2 is tax deductible.

If you feel able to chip in a small donation you can access Derek’s fundraising page here:

Many thanks

Derek Andrew

Have Lunch with RI President Elect Gordon McInally in Sydney on 31 October

Dear Members

Given your clubs have reasonable public transport access to, or are relatively close to NSW Parliament House, this is a special request to see if you can assist promote this event.

Needless to say bookings are slow and we know there's often a last minute rush, but we have to advise caterers on Monday 24/10 and I will be at the Zone 8 Conference 27/10 - 30/10 so it will be challenging with last minute bookings.

Yes it's $110 but that's the cost of these types of events at prestigious venues, but this is our next Rotary World President.

This is a one off opportunity to be up close and personal.

Hope you can assist and look forward to seeing you there along with a group of your fellow club members.

Regards

Lindsay

Have Lunch with RI President Elect Gordon McInally in Sydney on 31 October

Our District’s support of The Rotary Foundation over many years (plus our proximity to a major airport) provides a special opportunity to meet our Rotary leaders in person.

With the lockdowns of the pandemic behind us, we are delighted to welcome Rotary International President Elect Gordon McInally and his wife Heather for a brief visit on Monday, 31 October, to thank each of us for our support of The Rotary Foundation.

Together with District 9675, we are holding a luncheon at NSW Parliament House to welcome them to Sydney. We invite all Rotarians (and partners) to join us.  The luncheon includes a two-course meal with wine and WILL NOT have a raffle or auction to raise funds.  The cost is $110 per person.  Please register here as soon as possible if you would like to attend. Seats are very limited due to the size of the Strangers Dining Room at Parliament House, so please accept our apologies if the event is sold out when you try to register.

Catering needs to be confirmed by Monday 24 October.

Please book now.
