Resignations

Gail Hughes and Van Daglan have recently resigned from Mosman Rotary – but all for the right reasons!

Gail joined us on 18 December 2018 and has administered our WWCC (Working With Children Check) since then, when she took over this role from Treasurer Joan Groth.

Gail re-located to Goulburn from Mosman some years ago now, but continued in the role until now. On behalf of our Club we thank Gail for her meticulous approach to WWCC, and wish her the very best now that she has decided to remain in Goulburn.

Van Daglan joined us in 3 March 2020 and from the very start of her membership took on a key role within The Jigsaw Committee. Van’s creative and artistic approach to the design of the Jigsaw, including strategically positioned brush turkeys brought light and life to the boxed presentation. Van has been heavily involved with family and grandchildren, especially over the past year, with unlikely change in the short to medium term. As we all know “family comes first” so we wish Van all the very best.

We would welcome both Gail and Van to future meetings or Guest Speaker Presentations of particular interest to them, at any time.

Thank you both again for your service to The Rotary Club of Mosman.

Guest Speaker on Tuesday 5 July was PDG Kalma

Our Guest Speaker on Tuesday 5 July was PDG Kalma, very well known to our club.

Kalma presented us with an overview of the Regionalisation Project Zone 8, currently being considered as a project by Rotary International.

Zone 8 comprises Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Island countries. The project, should it be given the Go-Ahead, is aimed to address membership, public image, communication, leadership, and fundraising challenges to help define a more sustainable future for Rotary.

President Mark will keep us informed of the progress, which requires feedback from every club in Zone 8 in the first instance.

Mosman Artist of the month of June/July 2022 - Gerald Christmas

Gerald’s lifetime legal career, a partnership in a busy city law firm and family responsibility delayed his opportunities to follow his interest in art. In 1998 Gerald retired from his firm when he turned 60. Studies at Bathurst at Winter/Summer School and Mosman Evening College were followed with numerous other workshops. Later he attended classes at Willoughby Art School. He joined a group of artists on painting trips to the Kakadu country. The colours and contours of the magical landscape captivated his interest and he enjoyed further travels into the Kimberley ranges, Alice Springs and Queensland capturing the beauty of the landscape in his work . Gerald was involved in the incorporation of the Mosman Art Society and entered one his first landscapes of the Outback near Alice Springs later that year. He was Vice President for 6 years and in December 2005 was elected President which continued for 10 years.

In the early years of the Millennium, Gerald's art developed with a new focus. It was on his doorstep. He had moved house in 1993 to Balmoral. Soon after, the sights and sounds of Balmoral rewrote his art agenda for the next twenty years. The people, the pavilion, the Rotunda, the beaches, the boathouse, the rocks, the water, the bridge, the island, the weddings, the trees, the pelicans, the square men, the curvy girls, the sailors, the swimmers, the sunbakers, the families, the boats….. the list goes on.
