Important Change of venue for our Tuesday meetings from 28th June

Concerning the venue, The President and the board have decided a few weeks ago not to continue meeting at The Rowers but have arranged to change venue and to return to Hotel Mosman 1st Floor.

President Mark has been trying since starting our meetings at the Rowers to solve problems including quality of meals, meals not served on time etc etc but was never listened to by an ever-changing General Managers and staff.

The change comes at the right time as yesterday 14th June the Rowers expressed the fact that we could not meet anymore on Tuesdays and that we would have to change to the Wednesday, which does not suit us.

The first meeting at Hotel Mosman will be on the 28th June same time 12h30 for 1pm ending at 2pm.

Cost will be $30 including a raffle ticket. This reducing the cost from $30+$5 to $30

3 different meals will be offered, at least one including fish, and one including meat.

You will be served alternatively. Vegetarian meals will also be serve if required.

You will be asked as previously if you will be attending before Mondays at 12pm and if you require vegetarian.

Please DO NOT ask the waiter for anything else that you are given. Wait until EVERYBODY is served to change between yourselves if you want to exchange your plate.

IMPORTANT: President Mark has agreed with Hotel Mosman that if you have any complaints whatsoever about the food or the venue, these complaints must be addressed either to the President or myself. But NOT to the Hotel Mosman Staff or Directors.

ECO TOUR CHOWDER BAY TUES 7 JUNE 2022

ECO TOUR CHOWDER BAY

Arranged by Alan Toner – Sydney Harbour EcoWalks Tours

On Tuesday 7 June we replaced our usual Tuesday Lunch Meeting with an optional walking tour in our local area.

Members gathered at 10am at Chowder Bay where we met our guide Alan Toner and his assistant. The tour of Chowder Bay was specifically designed for our group. Features of the tour were Acknowledgement of Country, Small Ships Squadron of Chowder Bay, Encounters with local birdlife, Scenic Views along the water’s edge, Angophora Forest Walk, The Manor talk and the Colonial history of Chowder Bay.

Around 12.30pm we returned to our meeting place where appreciation and thankyou’s were expressed from both Alan, and Dom Rabu on behalf of the club.

The weather was perfect for the walk and we look forward to further EcoWalks with Alan in the future – North Head, Middle Head, Georges Heights all being his specialties.

Lunch at Archie Bear Mosman Rowers was optional – President Mark was able to join the lunch group to hear all about our morning. A really great social event now that we are able to get out and about again!

An update from Emily Rice, recipient of Rotary District 9685 Global Grant Scholarship

An Update from Emily Rice.

"

I'm writing with an update on the first year of my Master's at Columbia, which Mosman Rotary kindly sponsored. I've had a wonderful time so far, and am really grateful for the club's support.

The courses have been fascinating. My favourite were 'Successes and Failures of Peacemaking,' taught by the former UN Secretary of Peacekeeping, where we analysed conflicts and peace processes from Rwanda to Afghanistan; and 'Applied Peacebuilding', which dealt with practical and ethical components of a career in the peacebuilding field. I did well in my courses, finishing the year with a 4.0 GPA. Outside of class, I was selected as Co-President of the Conflict Resolution Society, which is responsible for holding talks and events related to peacebuilding on campus. Last semester, we held a career panel with alumni from NGOs and the UN, as well as a racial reconciliation event. We're planning mediation workshops for next semester.

For the next 3 months (the US summer), I will be living in Timor-Leste as part of a placement for the 'Applied Peacebuilding' class. I am working and researching with a local conflict prevention NGO called Belun. The focus of my project is adopting a gender-sensitive approach to local conflict resolution, as gender-based violence is a significant issue in Timor. I will then return to NY in September for the final year of the Master's program.

Overall, it's been a really interesting first year, I am so grateful to Rotary for making it happen.

My best to everyone at the club.

Regards,

Emily

She is certainly throwing herself into her course at Columbia Uni NYC and also getting practically involved at Timor-Leste.
