Zoom Presentation for Successful Aboriginal Program

We have received an email from Bob Selinger, Coordinator First Nations' Partnership Programs, Rotary Club of North Ryde:

If there is one thing we have all learnt from the The Voice referendum it is that pretty well all Australians want to see improvements in the disadvantages that a large number of Aboriginal people are subjected to. We in District 9685 have seen a number of successful programs that are moving towards "closing the gap," albeit over the longer term.

You are cordially invited to join Pam Pritchard of Turramurra Rotary in her presentation on the successful implementation of "Books in Homes" at Moree East Public School. We know that literacy is one of the keys to a child's future prospects.

"Books in Homes" illustrates how bringing together several Clubs to work on the same project can bring about important positive change.

Here is the link:

Tuesday 23rd January; meeting starts at 7.15 pm and the speaker is usually on after 7.35 pm.

Presentation of Paul Harris Fellowship Award

On Monday our club is presenting a Paul Harris Fellow posthumously to past Mosman Rotarian, David Kerr. David’s wife Sharon will be accepting the award. Below is a brief obituary drafted by PP Ward after David passed away :

David Kerr, a past member of the Rotary Club of Mosman, passed away last week in the Royal North Shore Hospital

David was a member from 2014-2018 during which time he and his wife Sharon made a substantial contribution to the success of our club (Sharon was an outstanding Editor of our Oozoo)

David had previously been a member of the Sydney CBD Rotary Club, having been a President and, as with Mosman, played a key role in many projects.

The highlight of David’s service with us was as Director of International Service (2015 – 2017). His professional background in senior finance and general industry roles was evident as he ensured the disciplines of project planning, due diligence, risk assessment and governance were imbedded in the projects undertaken by the team.

The International Services team under his leadership were recognised in 2016 when they won the prestigious Rotary District 9685 International Service award (team members were Charlie Barnett, Clare Stockdale, Blair Lesley, Danny Low and Halyna Koscharsky)

David was extremely capable and a person of high integrity.

The building at Hera, Timor Leste proceeds under remote supervision of PPs Graeme and Richard:

Help needed at local charity

We have been asked if anyone would be interested in maintaining a backyard garden for a local charity. Probably every 6 weeks or so mowing the lawn and maintaining plants, trimming etc. The volunteer would need own equipment.

Could anyone interested contact PP Derek for further information.

.

Marko has left for home

Popular exchange student, Marko, left for his home in San Paulo Brazil on Monday. We all wish him the best for the future
