After the resounding success of the Soiree last year we decided to run another. Bookings were slow to start with but soon picked up and by the night we had over 80 attendees. The night featured music from Louise Johnson - Harpist, Janet Webb - Flautist and Nathaniel Kong - Pianist. Food and drinks were served before the start and during the interval. Drs Scougall, Prosser and Ryan from the hand team gave presentations before the interval.

During the night we collected donations towards the cost of travel and equipment the team took with them and gifted to seminar participants. Approx $3500 was raised which together with the surplus from ticket sales resulted in a total raised of approx $8000.
The night was the brainchild of PP Barry and was organized by PP Di and her committee of Halyna, Ruth, Dom, Derek and Mark. President James was kept busy serving drinks with help from Helen and Shirley when James had to leave due to illness. And last but not least thanks to Di, Jocelyn, Vera, Ruth and Halyna for the food. Many club members and our 2 exchange students, Marko and Kazshiu, circulated with the food.

The Foreshore Walk and Bicentenary Trail was a project of our club at the time of the bicentenary. It was designed to give disabled access to what then was a rough patch of foreshore land. The level path ran from the parking area next to the boat shed to the end of the immediate foreshore. It then became a more rugged walking track to a local landmark, Pupil Point. Whilst the foreshore itself has improved over the years the wheelchair friendly path has deteriorated and custom designed tables have been removed.
President James led a small team (Liz, Mark A, Pickles the dog, Rob, Ross, Dieter, Blair and Derek) to discuss the possibility of refurbishing the trail with local historian Stephen Palmer. Apart from refreshing and/or creating signage we will need to supply new tables and work out how to differentiate the trail from the biking path which now runs alongside the path. There should also be an opportunity to provide improved signage to the trail to Pulpit Rock.

PP Ward has returned from a brief visit to East Timor to visit the Timor RYPEN week. He has taken advantage of the visit to go to Hera for discussions with the village re the proposed pre-school. He reports that the discussion has been excellent. He is in the process of agreeing minor design changes to ensure that the project meets budget without compromising the purpose of the pre-school. Any changes would include efforts to ensure that safety and health aspects are adequate.
Full details from PP Ward on Monday.
