Mary Kay Walker has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Parkinson’s NSW. She succeeds Jo-Anne Reeves who has left the organisation.
Mary Kay was previously Chief Operating Officer of the charity, responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all of its operational and financial-related activities.
She held this role for five years before being promoted to Acting CEO for one year, and now being confirmed as permanent CEO.
“My priorities in this new role are to win increased funding for Parkinson’s NSW from Government, build and leverage relationships with other Parkinson’s organisations and thought leaders to avoid duplication of effort, and advocacy to raise awareness of the impact and challenges of Parkinson’s among key decision-makers,” said Mary Kay.
“I will be building on the foundations laid by Jo-Anne Reeves, who leaves the organisation with our thanks and best wishes for the future.”
Mary Kay joined Parkinson’s NSW following a 32-year career in key finance and administration roles in Australia and the United States. Her sector experience spans superannuation, credit management, retail, commercial aviation, and accounting.
She holds a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Mathematics and Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology from the University of Sydney. In addition, she has a Diploma in Securities and Financial Markets from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

At John's memorial ceremony PP Blair gave a eulogy on behalf go our club:
John Nelson moved to Mosman with his wife Sandra and family in 1980 and quickly settled into community life in this urban village. Shortly after establishing his accountancy practice “The Village Accountant” in September 1987, John joined Rotary Club of Balmoral and served the club with distinction for the following fourteen years in various roles including treasurer and community service director. In 2000 John was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship in recognition of his service to the Club and the Community. In 2001 John joined the Rotary Club of Mosman and was actively involved in all avenues of service until recent years when declining health precluded him from active participation. He instigated a Mothers Day project of delivering flowers to nursing home residents who without family of close friends. He was a regular volunteer at our Australia Day Barbeque, a keen Christmas raffle seller and served as Honorary Auditor for twenty years.
John was a great supporter of the Rotary International student exchange programme and enjoyed hosting the Clubs exchange students for dinner at his favourite local restaurants.
Within the Club he was affectionally known as Lord Nelson a regal title bestowed on him by our own Lady Di
Over the years John provided pro bono services to many other community organisations including Probus, the Mosman Community College and local church groups, providing financial advice and audits as required. Soon after opening his practice, John joined the Board of Mosman Community Services and served as treasurer for over twenty fivr years. Initially, Community Services had a large budget and ran both the Senior Citizens Centre and Meals on Wheels. As these services grew they were taken over by Mosman Council leaving Community Services to provide other welfare services within the community.
John also enjoyed other aspects of Village life in Mosman, A daily routine on his way to work was collecting the mail from Mosman Post Office wherea close knit group of locals gathered outside the post boxes and chatted about the problems of the world. He also got politically involved when after threatening to chain himself to the tree in the Coronation roundabout at the southern end of Military Road before successfully lobbying council to cancel plans to replace it with a large daisy sculpture.
In 2008, with all the major banks closing their branches in Spit Junction, John was concerned about how local businesses and the elderly, particularly retirement village residents could easily access banking services. Having identified a community branch of the Bendigo Bank could provide a solution to the problem, John was the leading force in a group of local citizens who spent twelve months preparing the
the groundwork required to get approval to open a bank. Things such as due diligence, preparing a business case, finding suitable premises and releasing a prospectus before cajoling enough local supporters to invest in the bank before a licence could be granted.
The bank became a reality iwhen it opened in September 2009 with John being elected as the Chairman (unopposed of course). Over the following decade John fulfilled this role with distinction, continuing as the banks major salesman, as well as overseeing the lease of the premises, appointing management and staff and chairing the board to ensure that the Branch was operating correctly under all the stringent legislative and financial requirements for banks. All this while operating his own accounting practice and still volunteering for so many other local community groups.
The bank is now 15 years old & has been a large part of the Mosman Community since that time.
As well as serving the banking needs of the community the Bank has been a generous supporter of many community groups such as the Mosman Orchestra, Mosman Lawn Tennis, Mosman Croquet, Mosman Bowling Club, The Barn Quilters, Mosman Little Athletics, The Garrison Knitters, Mosman Netball, Mosman Cricket, Middle Harbour Public School and Mosman Rotary.
Johns service to his Village have been suitably recognised with his selection as Mosman Citizen of the Year on 2010 a Paul Harris Fellowship with Saphire pin and national recognition with an Order of Australia Medal. Throughout his life John lived up to the rotary motto of SERVICE ABOVE SELf.
