Christmas Hampers for Distribution by OneMeal Northern Beaches

Members of our club have the opportunity to help a local charity, OneMeal, by making up one or more Christmas Hampers. OneMeal is aiming to have 3000 hampers to distribute to needy families in the area. At our club’s next board meeting we will consider filling hampers as a general club community activity. However in the mean time why not get one or more hampers filled on a personal basis.

Boxes and a suggested packing list are available from PP Derek. The estimated cost of filling a hamper is $60+/-. When filled the hampers can be returned to PP Derek who will arrange delivery to OneMeal in Brookvale.

As an alternative to filling hampers it is possible to donate multiples of $50 which is then used to fill the relevant number of hampers; go to OneMeal.org.au.

Brief report from co-Youth Director Shirley

It was my pleasure to invite Jakob and Josh to our meeting today. Both young men are outstanding and have a bright future. Jakob told us about his experience at the NSW Youth Parliament Camp, which he found confidence building, a bit challenging at times but made many new friends. We wish him luck with his HSC examinations which commence tomorrow.

Josh is a very interesting young man and has had many life challenges already thrown at him with his childhood and schooling interrupted by cancer. He has however made the most of his difficult life so far and I’m sure is going to achieve his goals to become a music therapist and enable him to help others. I believe Josh is a perfect candidate for RYLA especially as he plays two instruments, keyboard and guitar, I know RYLA will love his talents at their show/dinner during the camp which Brian and I will attend in January.

It was great to see the young men and Christian chatting away like old friends during lunch and they did have Mosman High School as common ground. It was also lovely to hear Christian’s account of his time in Timor Leste. He obviously had a great time and I for one as his counsellor am very glad to see him back in Australia in one piece.”
