Dr Jaine will be speaking to us next Tuesday about The Sydney Institute of Marine Science and his latest project tracking big yellowtail kingfish.
|
I am a Research Associate based at the Sydney Institute of Marine Science and Adjunct Fellow at Macquarie University with broad interests in marine ecology, animal biotelemetry, oceanography, biodiversity and the influence of fisheries, climate change and anthropogenic disturbances on the sustainable management of marine organisms.
|
I have a particular research focus on monitoring populations and movements of sharks, batoid rays, gamefish and other marine megafauna, with expertise in large dataset management, analysis of spatial, presence-absence and time-series datasets, and data visualization using R and GIS.
|
My current research explores the following themes through various active collaborations, grants and student supervision:
|
- Continental-scale tracking of movements of Australian marine species to examine population structure and climate change impacts as part of Australia's Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS, www.imos.org);
- Population and movement ecology of manta and devil rays in Australia and globally;

President, Mark Wallis represented our club at a commemorative Anzac service remembering all the local Mosman service men & women in the wars since WW1. He laid a wreath on behalf of our club (see pictures below). The next service that our club will be represented will be the annual Anzac Day Dawn service.

Thank you all for your responses and as expected, all directors are in favor of Charlie's request for a year of "leave" from the club whilst he & Rae settle into their new phase of life living in Melbourne.
We will miss Charlie (& Rae) for his advice, enthusiasm & candor in everything he does for our club & Rotary in general.
Warm regards
Mark
President, Mosman Rotary Club
